‘’The jaguar is an opportunistic predator; whether it’s a bird, mammal or a reptile, if a jaguar is hungry, it’s going to hunt it. When jaguar finds cattle, however, this rule changes since livestock animals are easy prey. Therefore, the jaguar becomes selective, causing human-jaguar conflict- and this is one of the main threats for the jaguar in the Mexican wildlife and in the rest of Latin America. In fact, this is a worldwide problem threatening all wild cats.
Some jaguars are killed for this reason, like the Balam’s mother when he was a cub.’’
